Register search
Entities that can be searched using the Search for a company option include New Zealand Companies and Overseas Companies registered in New Zealand.
To search for other entities please use the Search Other Registers option. This includes Incorporated Societies, Charitable Trusts, Limited Partnerships, Retirement Villages and Industrial and Provident Societies.
The New Zealand Companies Register is an electronic register where company information and documents can be viewed online. There are four options available to you for conducting a register search. Searching is easy and most information is FREE.
A register search allows you to locate a company using either the company name or company number. This search will locate the organisations that are currently registered as well as those that have been removed from the register (Also know as 'Struck Off').

Step-by-step instructions to start a register search
Quick search
Simply enter the first three (or more) characters of a company name in the Quick Search box to produce a summarised list of search results. Double-click on a company name in the list to see more information about that company.
Number search
Every entity registered with the Companies Office has a unique reference number. If you know this number, simply type it in the Standard Search field and select Submit Search. The next screen displays the company name and number. Select the link to see more information about that company.
Standard name search
Enter the first few characters of an organisation name in the Standard Search box and select Submit Search. Select an organisation name from the list to see more information about that organisation.
If you wish to select another organisation from this list, select the Previous Search button to return to the list.
Keyword search
Keywords can appear anywhere within an entity name. Choose words that you think will return fewer results. Common words like ‘Investments’, ‘Holdings’, ‘Limited’ and ‘Company’ cannot be searched as they are not keywords.
Notes- Entities that will be searched include New Zealand Companies and Overseas Companies registered in New Zealand. To search for other entities please use the Search Other Registers option. This includes Incorporated Societies, Charitable Trusts, Limited Partnerships, Retirement Villages and Industrial and Provident Societies.
- Number search - We no longer attach an alphabetic prefix to the number, please only enter the number for this search (e.g. enter 123456 not AK123456).
